The Best Valletta Hotels and Boutique Hotels

4.64/5 (11)
If you’re looking for the best Valletta hotels you’ve come to the right place. I’ve selected a selection of the best-reviewed hotels in Valletta for different budgets, all based on personal experience and local knowledge.

Because Valletta is in popular demand, expect to pay well for Valletta hotels, especially compared to the average rates for some of the best hotels in Malta.

Contrary to what you might expect from Malta’s capital city, Valletta doesn’t offer an awful lot choice in terms of regular hotels.

Disappointed? Hang on!

There’s a good (and growing) selection of boutique hotels that offer comfortable accommodation in stylishly (and respectfully) renovated old houses in the city’s historical streets.

Boutique hotels aren’t exactly cheap but you can definitely find a deal if you book well in advance. Expect to pay a minimum of between 100-150 Euro per night in the high season (June – September), while low season rates aren’t far off. Although the “sun and sea” resorts will see far less demand in the low season, Valletta is a popular destination pretty much all year round.

If you have the budget, I’d highly recommend having a look at one of the boutique hotels listed below. It’s for good reason that they receive glowing reviews: They really do offer high-quality accommodation that can really enhance your stay in Malta’s capital. For family stays, however, you’ll need to look for alternatives in terms of traditional Valletta hotels (which I’ve listed further down below in this article).

Top 10 Boutique Hotels in Valletta

Ranked in no particular order, these are ten of the best boutique Valletta hotels that exist within the walls of Valletta. Book well in advance to get the best deals (and availability in the first place).

Casa Ellul

Casa Ellul is probably the epitome of luxury accommodation in Valletta, and although it could classify as a boutique hotel it goes well beyond the standard of boutique accommodation available. With luxurious interiors and amenities like private terraces with jacuzzi, this is a no-brainer if cost isn’t a concern.

Palazzo Consiglia

Somewhat of a cross between a traditional hotel and boutique accommodation, Palazzo Consiglia is unique. With a bit of a retro feel, yet modernly furnished and with high-quality amenities, it’s something a little bit special. Unsurprisingly, their rates are not for the faint-hearted.

Palazzo Paolina

A newcomer among Valletta boutique hotels, Palazzo Paolina has a unique identity, with classically designed interiors and a distinct baroque design as you enter the reception area. It’s a small hotel with comfortable, well-furnished rooms with the amenities to match the rates, while the staff are attentive and helpful.

Valletta Suites

SU29 Boutique Hotel

With unique interiors, spacious and luxuriously designed and furnished rooms, SU29 Boutique Hotel is a little different than most smaller luxury hotels in Valletta. Located in one of the best areas to stay within the capital and top notch service, this is one of the best choices around if budget isn’t an issue.

De Vilhena Boutique Hotel

De Vilhena Boutique Hotel provides a good balance of comfort and more affordable rates, making it a good option if you don’t necessarily need extravagant luxury but want to stay within the city’s walls. The staff, quality of food on site and service provided consistently receive high praise.

The Saint John

One of the lesser known options in this list, The Saint John offer more modernly decorated suites in a beautifully restored building in a popular part of town: Merchants’ Street. Excellent standards, upheld by an international chain of hotels (AX).

Barrakka Suites

One of the highlights when it comes to boutique hotels in Valletta is Barrakka Suites. Not only is the quality of the apartments they offer of a high standard, the location (near the Upper Barrakka Gardens) is an excellent one.

With a selection of modern, stylishly decorated rooms and suites, Ursolino offers comfortable accommodation in the centre of the capital. Their rates are a little on the high side, however.

Located close to the centre of Valletta, La Falconeria, is a great option if you’re looking for boutique accommodation. Value-wise, perhaps there may be better options if you book well in advance, though either way La Falconeria is a solid choice.

Value (3-Star) Hotels in Valletta

Osborne Hotel

The Osborne Hotel is one of the few more modest hotels around within Valletta and despite the modest 3-star rating, the rooms are comfortable, the staff is helpful and the location very good. The rates aren’t always what you’d expect, however, so unless you book well in advance you might find the rooms a little pricey, because of the central location I reckon.

Budget and cheap hotels in Valletta

Budget travellers will find it hard to find accommodation in Valletta, simply because of the high demand in the area. To add to the difficulty in finding good quality accommodation at budget prices is the fact that the few options available require you to book well in advance.
During the more popular times of the year, you’ll be hard pressed to find accommodation for less than 100 Euro per night.
