Is Valletta (Malta’s capital city) worth visiting?

Probably one of the most surprising questions I get asked on this website is whether or not it’s worth visiting Malta’s capital city of Valletta.

The short answer is: You’d be missing out if you don’t visit Valletta. Big time.

Why?

Even though it’s one of the smallest capital cities in the world, covering less than 1 square kilometre of land, there’s enough to see and do to easily fill three days.

Some of the most impressive points of interest can be found within a short walking distance of each other in Valletta, such as St. John’s Co-Cathedral and the Palace State Rooms.
The capital city offers a good number of restaurants with great food to sample.
Valletta has been the seat of power for centuries in Malta and was built by the Knights of the Order of St. John (also referred to as the Knights of Malta) in 1566, over 450 years ago now. It’s full of history and things to discover and explore.
Valletta is set to become the European Capital of Culture for 2018.
