Looking for the best St. Paul’s Bay Hotels to choose from?
You’ve come to the right place. In this short guide, I’ll help you with my selected recommendations of popular hotels in the area as a tourist-turned-local.
St Paul’s Bay, Malta, is a lovely place to stay, but finding a good hotel there can be challenging. Although lots of cheap hotels are available, sometimes they don’t live up to decent standards and cause people headaches when they’re meant to relax when visiting the island.
Most hotels in the area are 3- or 4-star properties and are in demand among people with families on holiday.
Here’s a quick overview to help you shortlist a few recommendations:
The db San Antonio Hotel + Spa is one of the most popular all-inclusive resorts in St. Paul’s Bay, Malta. Complete with contemporary interiors and decor, spacious rooms, and amenities such as indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a Moroccan-style spa with a hot tub, this is a great option for family stays, couples and small groups.
N.B. A minimum stay of 4 nights applies
The Park Lane Boutique Aparthotel is a lovely hotel in an area that’s known more for larger, family-oriented hotels.
Featuring an array of hotel rooms and self-catering apartments complete with chic interiors and features, it serves as a great base for couples. Great value if you book early enough.
As the name of this St. Paul’s Bay hotel suggests, the Seaview Hotel Malta offers rooms with picturesque sea views. Although it is a relatively new property, it is currently one of the most popular hotels in St. Paul’s Bay. In short, its modern interiors, comfy rooms and superb facilities match the 4-star rating.
The different hotel rooms offered are spacious but obviously, the sea view type is offered at much higher rates (which are generally worth it). If you’re marking a milestone, I highly recommend booking the luxurious suite that features a private hot tub.
What’s more, the Seaview Hotel is close to a good selection of bars and restaurants at street level. All in all, it’s one of the best hotels in the area that promises a memorable stay.
N.B. This hotel is advertised as being for “Adults Only +16
The former Dolmen Hotel Malta has recently undergone major refurbishment works ultimately transforming into a DoubleTree by Hilton property. The newly refurbished hotel is expected to open in April 2024, though bookings are being accepted already.
More information about this hotel will be published as soon as we have more details about the new amenities and features.
The Salini Resort is a hotel situated just outside the Buġibba/Qawra/St Paul’s Bay area, at Salina Bay. Following its refurbishment, this all-inclusive resort has received great reviews for its modern accommodation, facilities and the service offered.
It’s one of the best hotels in the area for those looking to benefit from a quiet location suitable for exploring Malta. The big plus is that you’re not staying right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of what can be a rather busy location during the high season.
In short, the Salini Resort Hotel provides you with good quality and modern accommodation with relative peace and quiet. Definitely worth considering.
The Qawra Palace Hotel Malta is oriented towards family holidays and is one of the larger properties in the area. Aside from a heated indoor pool, the hotel also offers an outside pool area across the road from its main premises.
All in all, this hotel offers a good level of service and standard of accommodation at reasonable rates.
Hotel Santana is a centrally-located hotel and is a good example of a “no-frills” hotel in St. Paul’s Bay, where you can enjoy a comfortable stay at reasonable nightly rates.
Situated just around the corner from the Bugibba bus station and a 5-minute walk to the seafront, this is a great hotel if you’re on a budget.
The Soreda Hotel is one of the budget-friendly options in Qawra that offers good value for a comfortable stay on the island.
In a nutshell, you can relax in a clean, comfortable room, lounge by or go for a dip in the rooftop swimming pool and chill out on the terrace. What’s more, the restaurant doesn’t disappoint. Location-wise, you’ll be staying on the edge of St. Paul’s Bay, close, but not on, along the coast.
Opened in 2022, the Ibis Styles is currently the most modern hotel in the heart of Buġibba and is a great option for a comfortable hotel stay.
Situated close to the main square and seafront but less exposed to the nightlife in the area, it’s a good location.
Refurbished in recent years, the Sunseeker Holiday Complex is consistently racking up positive reviews and is a good recommendation if you’re looking for a value stay in Buġibba.
TIP: Request a room at the back of the hotel and on one of the higher floors. They’re quieter and offer better sea views.
Pebbles Resort is a great little hotel in St. Paul’s Bay, just off the Bugibba square at the Bugibba seaside promenades.
Although it doesn’t quite reach the required level of amenities to classify as a 4-star hotel, its modern and clean interiors offer a welcoming stay in the area, while the service and restaurant make the hotel a compelling offering.
Located at a small fishing harbour in St. Paul’s Bay, the Gillieru Harbour Hotel is one of the oldest-standing and most popular hotels in Buġibba. It’s probably the best among cheap hotels in Buġibba, so if you’re on a budget, look here first.
Its location is on the edge of the main Buġibba area, opposite the small St. Paul’s Shipwreck Church and next to a small fisherman’s harbour with its characterful coloured boats.
Buccaneers is a family-run guesthouse close to the Buġibba seafront and close to the Buġibba perched beach. With 30 rooms, it’s one of the larger guesthouses in St. Paul’s Bay and serves as a good budget option if you’re looking for a cheap stay.
Even though this is a budget-oriented guesthouse, the interiors and furniture are neat, air conditioning is included in the price, and the food is well-reviewed.
The Relax Inn Hotel is located right in the heart of Buġibba, just a stone’s throw away from the main square, the seafront promenade, a plethora of restaurants, bars and cafes and the main bus terminus.
In short, this hotel is one of the budget-friendly options that has no frills but gets the basics right. The rooms are clean and spacious, and there are also several common areas including a bar, a small rooftop pool, a games room, and a lounge with cable TV and a DVD library.
While you shouldn’t expect something amazing, this hotel is still a decent option and offers good value for money overall.
N.B. WI-FI is only free in the lobby
The Topaz Hotel is centrally located in Bugibba and offers good value accommodation with relatively low rates compared to other 3-star hotels in the area.
Receiving consistently good reviews for cleanliness, food served, and overall service, although the interiors are a little dated and the hotel could use a facelift.
St Paul’s Bay Malta is both a town and a council that covers the neighbouring Buġibba and Qawra in the North of Malta, stretching from Xemxija Bay in the West to Salina Bay in the East.
The town was named after St. Paul, who, according to the Bible, was shipwrecked in Malta while crossing the Mediterranean Sea on the way to Rome. The Feast of St. Paul’s Shipwreck is a national public holiday in Malta, commemorating this important event to the fairly religious (largely Roman-Catholic) population.
Location-wise, the core of St. Paul’s Bay is the westernmost part of this cluster of towns and is a fairly quiet area compared to Buġibba and Qawra. Once a small fisherman’s village, the area is now one of the most popular tourist hotspots, with thousands of holidaymakers choosing to stay here.
Although there are fewer hotels in the area when compared to its neighbouring towns, there are still some decent options to choose from. Everything is within walking distance, and public transport connections are good here, e.g. to get to Mellieha Bay (further up North) or to head out to the Maltese countryside.
In short, it’s also the perfect location if you’d like to balance sightseeing with time at some of the most popular beaches that Malta has to offer.
